We are sharing the popular fruit snack recipe trending in Japan called “candied fruit lollipop” or fruits ame in Japanese. This bite-size dessert looks gourmet, but is a cinch to make! All you need to do is simply melt sugar and cover the fruit with it, then you just eat it that way.
Originally a Chinese traditional street snack for children, people in Japan are making this candy-shell grazed fruit at home as one of the easy-to-prepare and instagramable snacks as they are staying indoors to quarantine.

The thin candied-shell that cracks open when bitten is such a delightful crunch that the ASMR video featuring this unique dessert by You Tuber SAS-ASMR has gained more than 20 million views. The burst of flavors from the sweet hardened sugar and the sour fresh fruit is the perfect combination that will most likely have you eat another stick!
HOW TO MAKE CANDIED FRUIT LOLLIPOP
The recipe highlights the delicious crunchiness of candied fruit that is incredibly easy to make and tastes amazing!
1 cup Sugar
1/4 cups Water
Fruits (I used 10 Strawberries, 10 green grapes, 10 red grapes, and 1 mandarin) You can use other kind of fruits as long as they are not watery, such as melons.
1. Peel the skin off the mandarin and separate into segments. You do not have to remove the pith (the spongy white stuff between the peel and the fruit) because it is edible and tasteless.
2. Wash the strawberries and grapes well.
3. Dry them well using a paper towel. If there is water on the skin, the sugar syrup won’t stick to it.
4. Remove stems from the strawberries.
5. Insert skewers into the fruits. You can place as many pieces of fruits as you like per skewer.
6. Place the sugar and water into a small sauce pan.
7. Combine well.
8. Place the pan on the stove and turn heat to medium-high. At the beginning, the sugar mixture is cloudy but do not stir the mixture or swirl the pan at all. The sugar will gradually dissolve. As the syrup boils and starts to turn a golden amber color as in the photo, turn the heat off. The process takes about 4 - 6 minutes.
💡It should read 300ºF (150C) on a candy thermometer.
💡If you do not have a candy thermometer, test the doneness by taking some syrup on a skewer and put it into cold water. If it hardens immediately, then your syrup is ready. If it is still soft, the syrup is not ready yet.
9. Angle your pan so that the syrup is more accessible. Immediately begin dipping the skewered fruits quickly into the syrup, or use a spoon to pour the syrup on them.
10. Place the skewered fruits on parchment paper to cool and harden. It only takes a few seconds to harden.
11. Enjoy! They should be eaten within 1 hour, or placed in the refrigerator right away if you are not serving them immediately.
